Über diesen Titel

'A biography as gripping as one of Lee Child's own bestsellers' Ian Rankin
'Very enjoyable' The Times
'Vivid and entertaining' Telegraph

Lee Child is the enigmatic powerhouse behind the phenomenally successful Jack Reacher novels. With devoted fans across the globe, and over a hundred million copies of his books sold in more than forty languages, he is that rarity, a writer who is both critically acclaimed and adored by readers. And yet curiously little has been written about the man himself.

The Reacher Guy shows us for the first time the young man behind the invention of Jack Reacher. Through parallels drawn between Child and his literary creation, it tells the story of how a lost and lonely boy from Birmingham with a ferocious appetite for reading grew up to become a high-flying TV executive, before coming full circle and establishing himself as an internationally bestselling author.

Heather Martin explores Child's lifelong fascination with America - and shows how the Reacher novels fed and fuelled this obsession. Drawing on exclusive correspondence and conversations with Child over a number of years, she forensically pieces together his life, from Northern Ireland and County Durham to New York and Hollywood. This is the definitive account of the man behind one of the most iconic series of our times.©2020 Heather Martin

Kritikerstimmen

Here is a biography as gripping as one of Lee Child's own bestsellers. Heather Martin digs deep to uncover nugget after nugget. Trust me, this is gold. (Ian Rankin)

I found this book for 2/3 of its running time utterly boring. In biographies I rarely enjoy the part about the childhood of celebrities. I don't care about how they lived and felt as a kid. I got this book because I want to know how the person's life was in the process of making it big and afterwards. All these little anecdotes from what was before just don't interest me. And the bad news is, this author takes even more time describing the childhoood, which is - surprise, surprise - not much different of that of about every other kid than her fellow biographers. I really had to will myself listening to that - unfortunately - very extensive part of the book.
However, when I was almost ready to quit on the biography Martin began to talk about Child's writing career. And this part is brilliant. It gave me a lot of insight into how it feels to be a writer and how to make it as a writer. On account of this excellent last part I give the book three stars, without it the rating would be minus 3
