The Pragmatic Programmer is one of those rare tech audiobooks you’ll listen, re-listen, and listen to again over the years. Whether you’re new to the field or an experienced practitioner, you’ll come away with fresh insights each and every time.

Dave Thomas and Andy Hunt wrote the first edition of this influential book in 1999 to help their clients create better software and rediscover the joy of coding. These lessons have helped a generation of programmers examine the very essence of software development, independent of any particular language, framework, or methodology, and the Pragmatic philosophy has spawned hundreds of books, screencasts, and audio books, as well as thousands of careers and success stories.

Now, 20 years later, this new edition re-examines what it means to be a modern programmer. Topics range from personal responsibility and career development to architectural techniques for keeping your code flexible and easy to adapt and reuse. All the old favorite topics are there, updated for this new world. And there's a bunch of new content, reflecting what we've learned in the intervening years.

Whether you’re a new coder, an experienced programmer, or a manager responsible for software projects, use these lessons daily, and you’ll quickly see improvements in personal productivity, accuracy, and job satisfaction. You’ll learn skills and develop habits and attitudes that form the foundation for long-term success in your career. You’ll become a pragmatic programmer.

This audiobook is organized as a series of sections, each containing a series of topics. It is read by Anna Katarina; Dave and Andy (and a few other folks) jump in every now and then to give their take on things.

    An extraordinary Audiobook

I have heard a lot of Audiobooks. All were just read versions of the written book. This Audiobook is different. A lot of effort was put in to it transfer the written book into an Audiobook. Well done! The first technical computer book I really enjoyed as an Audiobook. Thanks.

    Nicht für Anfänger

Sehr gute Konzepte. Das Buch passt für die Experten in Programmierung und nicht für die Anfänger.

    Great as an audiobook

After having read the original version before, I got the new edition to compare (and re-read after a few years). I was pleasantly surprised how this audiobook really embraced the format and rather than referring to “figure 7.15” like many other books do, found a way to even make the code examples accessible through audio.

    Highly recommended content AND format!

Easily the very best Audiobook adaptation in IT

This is easily the best Audiobook adaptation of any Softwarebook I have ever listened to. This combined with the undoubtedly great content makes for the best in class - period!

    The technical Audible book unicorn

I haven't read the original, but from what I gather, this must have been an exceptionally good book to begin with. Nonetheless, both authors seem to have poured their hearts into updating the anniversary edition once again, and it shows.

The book is absolutely full with great ideas and tips around a software developer's day to day work. Since the book's inception, some (still not the majority!) of the proposed techniques/approaches have gained traction, but even for those it's really nice to have a book one can point their colleagues to which does a marvellous job of explaining the reasoning behind them.

On the level of technical execution, this is the *single* (!) technical software engineering book on Audible I can whole-heartedly recommend. There is no doubt how much thought the authors put into how the book should best be adapted to the audiobook format, and they obviously spared no expense to do so. This is the unicorn in a sea of mediocre SE books on Audible, and in my opinion, all future contenders would do well to learn from it.

should be mandatory reading for all oftware eng.

this book covers the most important topics related to programming. This common sense knowledge is very much lacking, even in senior positions.
