The Power of Habit
Inhaltsangabe
New York Times best seller
This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.
Named one of the best books of the year by The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times
In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.
“Sharp, provocative, and useful.” (Jim Collins)
“Few [books] become essential manuals for business and living. The Power of Habit is an exception. Charles Duhigg not only explains how habits are formed but how to kick bad ones and hang on to the good.” (Financial Times)
Kritikerstimmen
“You’ll never look at yourself, your organization, or your world quite the same way.” (Daniel H. Pink, best-selling author of Drive and A Whole New Mind)
“Entertaining . . . enjoyable . . . fascinating . . . a serious look at the science of habit formation and change.” (The New York Times Book Review)
“A flat-out great read.” (David Allen, best-selling author of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity)

Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. Celebrating its 15th year of helping people solve personal and professional problems, this special anniversary edition includes a new foreword and afterword written by Covey that explore whether the 7 Habits are still relevant and answer some of the most common questions he has received over the past 15 years.

Popular blogger Cal Newport reveals the new key to achieving success and true meaning in professional life: the ability to master distraction. Many modern knowledge workers now spend most of their brain power battling distraction and interruption, whether because of the incessant pinging of devices, noisy open-plan offices or the difficulty of deciding what deserves their attention the most. When Cal Newport coined the term deep work on his popular blog, Study Hacks, in 2012, he found the concept quickly hit a nerve.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Essentialism is not one more thing - it’s a whole new way of doing everything. It’s about doing less, but better, in every area of our lives. Essentialism is a movement whose time has come.

Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Absolut Empfehlenswert!

That's a "should read/listen to" book.
its definitely worth spending the time on this book. it will give you awareness about your current good and bad habits, what power they inhibit and what you can or should change in your life to be more fullfilled, sucessfull and happy. give it a try especially when you struggle with consistency, wasting your time unknowingly throughout the day, addictions of any kind, and also if you miss momentum and motivation in your everyday live.

I listened to it for two hours and could not make it any further. It consists of partly-depressive and boring, repetitive stories and I guess it was meant to make sense later.. interesting and well researched
interesting book. The author has done a great job in researching and explaining the power of habit from different scientific perspectives psychological, social and neurological all while managing to tell an interesting story. I particularly enjoyed that the author used real life events, ordinary people, successful people as well as companies in order to exemplify how habit manifests itself in our daily lives. The storyline is sometimes interrupted and confusing if digested as an audio book. Also the different chapters are divided into different subchapters which makes it a bit confusing. All in all a great and interesting book.
