Über diesen Titel

Bloomsbury presents Impossible Creatures: The Poisoned King by Katherine Rundell, read by Samuel West

The dragons call out, and the ratatoskas tell of murder. Come with us now. There is justice to be done.

Return to the magic of the Archipelago... The Poisoned King is the dazzling second book in Katherine Rundell's epic and bestselling Impossible Creatures series.

'There was Tolkien, there is Pullman and now there is Katherine Rundell' – Michael Morpurgo

When Christopher Forrester is unexpectedly woken by a miniature dragon chewing on his face, his heart leaps for joy. For months he’s dreamed of returning to the Archipelago – the secret islands where all the creatures of myth still live. But he did not know it would involve a rescue mission on the back of a sphinx, or a plan to enter a dragon’s lair. Nor did he imagine it would involve a girl with a flock of birds at her side, a new-hatched chick in her pocket and a ravenous hunger for justice...

I started listening to the Story because I read that the book is a bestseller and the rights have been bought up by Disney. Also people call the Author the New JK Rowling. Phew! That's a lot of expectations to meet there.
I sadly have to say it really can't be compared to Harry Potter. It lacks in depth and is too predictable. However it can be a nice little listen on the side. I personally like the appearance of Ratatoskr/a from Norse Mythology. I think Ratwell is probably my favorite character.
The other characters I found too flat for my maturity level. For Kids they're fine.
I appreciate that the story presents good morals (like for example the handling of revenge).
As a Swiss - Hungarian it felt a bit awkward to hear the names of the Dragons "Drache" and "Sarkany".

As I said I think the story is good for older kids, but at the same time I'm not sure if the sometimes poetic way things are described is enough childfriendly.

Feelgood Story for kids(?)

Was waiting for the second book to be published ever since the first one came out. And it did not disappoint! The story of second book follows Anya on a journey to find out who has poisoned the king, her grandfather. We meet Christopher, Irian, Nighthand and Ratwin as well as Jacques again. All characters are brought to life so vividly and with such enthusiasm by Samuel West's excellent narration. He has a different voice for every single creature, making the birds sound like raven and the mice like overexcited children. Listened to the first book 3 times. Will listen to this one more than once as well.
