    Brought to you by Penguin.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction 2019.

Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2018.

The New York Times best seller.

A wondrous, exhilarating novel about nine strangers brought together by an unfolding natural catastrophe.

An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light. A hearing and speech-impaired scientist discovers that trees are communicating with one another. An Air Force crew member in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan.

This is the story of these and five other strangers, each summoned in different ways by the natural world, who are brought together in a last stand to save it from catastrophe.

Annoying and monotonous Voice, check before buying

Its hard to write about how I like the story, as the Speaker is very annyoing to me.
I was looking forward to hear the story but the Voice made it impossible for me to enjoy it.
I dont understand how such a highly praised book can be read by a Voice like this. Nothing personal Suzanne, maybe its just my personal taste. Check before buying!

    great audiobook

however i didnt like that the speaker spoke in accents for the foreign characters and in (for a lack of a better word) hearing-disability accent for a character with a hearing disability. that was extremely offputting and frankly seemed kind of racist and ableist in 2019.

    Inspiring, epic storytelling

This novel reads like a true story of all of our lives. The individual destiny of each of the characters are woven into an unforgettable drama about the salvation of our ecosystem. Powers is a master of the language, and we can only be grateful that he has employed his artistic talent for such a worthwhile cause. Trees are much more a part of us than most of us are aware. This book should be required reading for every human on the planet.
