This book was very well written and captivating. As a female in STEM I found the account very inspiring if not also disheartening. I wish there were a section in the end to clarify how much of the story was fact and how much was fiction, although I know that scholars themselves argue on these points. I love how the story focuses on Mileva Maric and her struggles as the only female student studying physics and the university in Zurich in 1896. Her internal dialogue and her discussions with her female friends perfectly recognize the challenges women had to overcome during that time and still today. While I admire Einstein’s work and brilliance, I lost respect for him knowing that he abandoned Mileva and their daughter Liserl. I think the author does a remarkable job in grounding the famed Einstein and pointing out his short-comings so as to make him more human. At the same time she elevates Mileve who, in a different world, may have received equal amounts of fame for her contributions to science.
