Über diesen Titel

In the ancient moors of Scotland, the king of Calidon lies on his deathbed, cursed by a ring that cannot be removed from his finger. When a mysterious fey stranger appears to save the king, he also carries a secret that could tear the royal family apart.

The kingdom's only hope will lie with two young men raised worlds apart. Aric is the beloved heir to the throne of Calidon; Albaric is clearly of noble origin yet strangely out of place.

The Oddling Prince is a tale of brothers whose love and loyalty to each other is such that it defies impending warfare, sundering seas, fated hatred, and the very course of time itself. In her long-awaited new fantasy novel, Nancy Springer (the Books of Isle series) explores the darkness of the human heart as well as its unceasing capacity for love.

Suspend your disbelief and strap in for a good time. Not an amazing, life-changing time for me personally, but a good time!

Some of the elements felt very self-indulgent to me personally and I enjoyed myself for the majority of the time. Having familiaI love as the focus instead of romantic love felt very refreshing to me. I thought the end was odd and there's one magical thing in the second half that I found superfluous, which is why I rated it 3 stars instead of 4. Narrator did a decent job. I loved the writing style.

**slight spoilers mentioning elements of the story, but not the plot**

This is very much brotherly insta-love which worked well for the plot, which is kind of thin to be fair. There is a lot of exposition in the beginning, which I didn't mind too much. Also there is some poetry that is referenced through the book, which I know is not everybody's cup of tea. MVPs are the queen and the magical horse (trust me).

**spoilery opinions**
I would have liked to spend more time on Albaric adjustment to the world, or rather have it consistently be a thing during the whole book. I have some mixed feelings about the love interest, because on one hand the main character is (rightfully so) very insistent that nothing will happen between them for a long time because she's too young, but then there is some language like "a woman's kiss", which then felt off to me, even though I know the author meant it (probably). I also would have liked a bit more sympathy for the king, given that he's been essentially a captive for years which he cannot even remember, even though I did feel for Albaric and the king's behavior was Not Great thorough the book.

self-indulgent fantasy, in a good way
