"The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." (Marcus Aurelius)

We are stuck, stymied, frustrated. But it needn't be this way. There is a formula for success that's been followed by the icons of history - from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs - a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.

These men and women were not exceptionally brilliant, lucky, or gifted. Their success came from timeless philosophical principles laid down by a Roman emperor who struggled to articulate a method for excellence in any and all situations.

This book reveals that formula for the first time - and shows us how we can turn our own adversity into advantage.

I hear this audio when I feel down

when I feel somewhat discouraged or kind of down I always go back to this book. Afterwards all seems lighter and I win again lust for confronting what may come.
The first time I found the audio a bit to dense. But the second time I liked it much better. Now I hear it every now and then. It is on of my favorite audios.
Highly recommended for people interested in history, philosophy, attitude...
Ryan Holiday also does a great job as a speaker.

Schade eigentlich.

    It's a book about Stoicism

It talks about how some famous people embraced the Philosophy of stoicism. It's not a book which gives you insights about life, but how you can live life if you follow some stoic principles.

    Excellent!

The reading is good, but his voice is not the best one. The content is well thought and researched.

When you’ve read the title, you’ve read the book

This book contains one piece of wisdom, which is in the title, and the rest is a lot of hot air. I’ll give you the gist: Nothing stands in your way, rather everything guides you on the way. When confronted by an obstacle, explore every option, act on the one you choose and see it through. There you have it, now you don’t have to listen to the audiobook. Oh, and almost a third of the audiobook is an uninteresting interview with the author with nothing new.

A 10 minutes summary would get the idea across

Felt very repetitive throughout. This topic would fit in a 5 page essay,I think.

Another great book from Ryan Holiday

What I liked about this book is the good structure. It's divided into 3 parts, each with relatively short chapters, making it easy to follow Ryan's thoughts.
The individual chapters present very interesting stories of some stoic thinkers and how they solved the problem they've had.
It's great to see how the knowledge of these sometimes ancient people are still applicable today. They can be applied to my life and I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

Also, I really like that Ryan quotes a stoic thinker in every chapter. It makes the book quite enjoyable for me.
