It was all it promised to be. Inexperienced all kind of feelings while listening to this book. It was hard to put down so I could get some hours of sleep :-)

mein erstes englisches Hörbuch seid 3 Jahren. war aber dank der tollen Sprecher super zu verstehen.
die Geschichte war etwas lahm und nicht mit 50 Shades of Grey zu vergleichen. jedoch um sich einfach berieseln zu lassen und das eigene Englisch zu entstauben, sehr gut geeignet

I felt compelled to write a review for this story. At first, I have to admit I was reluctant to buy this audiobook because I had a hate-love relationship with Fifty Shades of Grey. But I'm very happy I gave the story a chance. Maxim, the male protagonist, shows that an alpha male does not have to be an asshole who orders women around and is hoping for a perfect 1950's relationship, but is sweet, kind and caring, while still being very protective over the female protagonist Alessia, who comes with a lot of issues. I also enjoyed the dual perspective in the book, where we get Maxim as a first-person narrator and Alessia as a third person narrator. Another great aspect of the audiobook is that whenever Alessia and Maxim play a piece on the piano there are actually a few seconds of the tune cut in, which makes it even easier to really get into the story.

Now to the story itself:

Maxim, a 28-year-old, from London has just lost his older brother and inherited his title as an Earl, with which he is struggling because he was raised to be the spare, not the heir. He is a true bachelor and previously only had two rather short relationships. He enjoys one night stands instead and had been enjoying his life without having a real job up until his brother's untimely death.

He meets Alessia in his apartment because she has taken over the job of his previous cleaning lady and he is intrigued by her from the start. Alessia is a twenty-three-year-old from Albania, who has only just arrived in London. While the story progresses we learn how she came to London and what she had to endure on her way there.

While their love story is unfolding, they also have to face the dangers that come with Alessia's recent past. The thriller aspects of the story mix perfectly with the romance and give Maxim the chance to show off his protective site.

All in all, The Mister is a great novel, which has enough story left to tell for a second part, even though it is also great as a standalone novel. Where with Fifty Shades, I at times wanted to yell at Ana to kick Christian where it hurts and not let him walk all over her, here I just wanted to hug Alessia to let her know all will end well for her and give Maxim a high five, for being such a great guy.

So, if you are looking for a great audiobook to listen to, The Mister is definitively a great pick. And I know, even though I have just finished it, I will start over again in the very near future.

Es war ein sehr schönes romantisches Hörbuch mit Dramatik und einigen Höhepunkten. Es ist wert gelesen zu werden.

I just finished and OMG. I absolutely loved every second of this amazing book. It's totally different than FSOG. No BSDM involved, just plain vanilla sweet love. When the cover was revealed the blurb immediately cought my eye. I have known that Mrs. James is brilliant storyteller but this one...le sigh. I believe I loved it more than FSOG. Don't get me wrong I truly loved that one but this one has such great plot and fabulous twists that I was sitting on pins and needles while reading / listening to this slow burn and mind changing, falling in love story.

I must admit the changing 1st and 3rs POV was quite unusual but you can get quite well used to it. The narration helped a lot.

I adored Alessia's strength after everything she's been through and Maxim's 180°. The change in him was feelable from the first time he had laid eyes on her. Their journey was stony but in the end they found their happiness.

And let me tell you...the narration was fabulously done. It was joy to listen to both narrators' voices.

Ich gebe es gern zu: Ich habe FSOG geliebt. Alle Bücher der Reihe - auch die aus der Sicht von Christian. Für mich war das eine tolle Geschichte, die ich mehrfach gehört habe und sicher mal wieder hören werde.
Aber "The Mister".... das war ein totaler Fehlgriff. Eine tumbe Geschichte mit so vielen Klischees, dass man sie gar nicht mehr aufzählen kann. Ich habe nach etwa einem Drittel, durch das ich mich schon ziemlich quälen musste, gescrolled und das Ende gelesen. Ich hätte es mir besser gespart - das war noch enttäuschender als der Anfang. Ein Buch, das man nicht gelesen haben muss und das im Grunde erst gar nicht geschrieben werden musste. Sehr schade. Meine Hoffnung war groß, und der Plot hatte sich gut angehört.

Die Geschichte ist extrem flach, klischeehaft und vorhersehbar. Reicher Ritter rettet armes Aschenputtel. Das Wort „fuck“ kommt in jedem zweiten Satz vor. Die Sprecher (in der Originalfassung) sind ebenfalls nicht überzeugend. Ich habe lange nichts so Schlechtes mehr gelesen/gehört.
