Die Sprecherin Juliet Stevenson kann nicht genug gelobt werden, aber die Geschichte der Mrs. Hancock ist doch auch sehr, sehr gut geschrieben, sprachlich angelehnt an Jane Austens Zeitgenossen, inhaltlich erinnernd an Charles Dickens kritische Gesellschaftsbilder, und mit viel gutmütigem Humor.
"Fanny Hill" kommt einem in den Sinn, zwar ohne die erotischen Szenen, aber man erfährt, wie das Leben der "Women of pleasure" vermutlich wirklich aussah, und als Leser fiebert man mit unserer Kurtisane und ihrem liebenswerten Bewunderer, Mr. Hankcock mit, ob und wie sie ihre Beziehung festigen....
Ich habe mir vorgenommen, das Buch auch selbst zu lesen, und bin gespannt, wie ich es ohne Juliet Stevensons wunderbare Interpretation finden werde...und ob es wohl wirklich Meerjungfrauen gegeben hat ;-)
