I picked this audio book because of its unusual storyline of Smithson Ide, going on a bike ride to find himself, and the whereabouts of his sister after their parents passed away. Unfortunately, I was not able to fully identify with any of its main protagonists, due to their language, their background and their naiveté. Smithson found himself in the most unusual and oftentimes dangerous situations. The story was interesting and I enjoyed listening to it, however, I was not overwhelmed. I was positively surprised when the narration continued after the (somehow abrupt?) end of the book, revealing an interview with the autor cum narrator. What a great bonus - I enjoyed this interview almost more than the book itself. Ron McLarty has an amazing voice which matched the characters very well. All in all, this story was original, but the book did not fully meet my expectations.

Mir hat das Hörbuch sehr gut gefallen. Die Hauptperson wurde Dank den subtilen Beschreibungen und der eindrücklichen Art des Vorlesens richtig lebendig. Zwischendurch blieb die Geschichte mal ein wenig stehen. Ansonsten kann ich dieses Hörbuch aber wirklich nur empfehlen.
