Brick’s on-point ability to time every phrase perfectly highlights NYPD Detective John Corey’s distinct personality. DeMille’s other characters are also well defined, particularly Detective Beth Penrose, whose romantic advances help bring Corey out of retirement. Another memorable character as portrayed by Brick is seductive secretary Amy Lang, who works for the detective agency that appears to be at the center of the murders. Brick ties the story together by enhancing the dialogue and maintaining a pace that keeps the book moving."

I have read all Nelson DeMille novels chronologically since By the Rivers of Babylon, and since the book Plum Island, John Corey has been my most popular fictional hero. After this book The Maze I have my doubts: I rarely have read such a static script with so many repetitions (i.e. with events in past John Corey books cited again and again) and with so many curses. Even though I belong to an older generation and I also know the fictional hero John Corey, the excessive sexist descriptions in this book now pushed me away. I would like to know what Scott Brick, who shines as a narrator as always, has thought of this book while reading it - because Scott did also narrate Nelson's previous books, and Scott once described himself as a fan of Nelson Demille.
So I will turn to Nelson Demille's previous books, and I think I will hear Plum Island again.
