Ich habe schon einige von Canavans Büchern gelesen. The Magician's Apprentice hat mir dabei am wenigsten gefallen. Aufgrund der sonst überragenden Werke von Canavan ist es ein immer noch gutes Buch, welches man durchaus als gute Unterhaltung weiterempfehlen kann. Was mir am wenigsten gefällt ist die in die Länge gezogene Story. Die letzten 10 Kapitel hätte man vermutlich auch deutlich abkürzen können. Die Erzählung aus Sicht der zweiten Protagonistin Stara hätte man sich aus meiner Sicht auch sparen können und damit das ganze deutlich kürzer machen können. Eventuell trägt dieser Teil der Geschichte etwas zu den weiterführenden Teilen bei. In diesem Buch emfpand ich die Ausflüge in Staras Leben aber weniger als spannend und mehr als störend, bis auf wenige Aspekte, welche dem Gesamten zwar etwas Tiefe verleihen, aber sicher auch kürzer möglich gewesen wären.

Trudi Canavan seems to dislike main character who actually make their own decisions. Each character is in some way only receiver of commands and trots along. This might be realistic, but it makes the characters very boring.
This book consists basically of two stories that barely interact with each other. There would have been no harm to each story by removing the other from the book.
