Inhaltsangabe

How much can you trust your friends?

The text message is just three words: I need you.

Isa Leigh drops everything, packs up her baby daughter and heads straight to Salten, where she and her three best friends attended prestigious boarding school Salten House. Only Kate still lives in the area, at the crumbling Tide Mill she inherited when her disgraced art tutor father vanished when she was just 17.

Each of the women is running from something, from an act that has haunted them for many years but which they have tried their best to bury: in work, in alcohol, in family, faith and routine. At school together, the girls used to play a game - the lying game - in which they competed to tell the most outrageous stories to fool tourists. But for some, did the boundaries between fact and fantasy become too blurred? And how much can you trust one another?

Fantastic

I love this audiobook.
Usually I am not the hugest fan of female voices when it comes to audiobooks but Imogen Church's voice is incredible. She can imitate the different voices perfectly.
The story is sometimes a bit predictable but still it is with suspense and beautifully written.
This audiobook is perfect for those who love to immerse themselves in stories and empathize with the characters.

I was completely hooked!

I never used to like thrillers but have recently come around. This book was a big part of that. The story is suspenseful yet never unrealistic and despite the horrors at the centre of the plot, it is oh so beautifully told. I’m sure the last bit is a combination of Ruth Ware‘s writing and the way Imogen Church reads it - she has such a beautiful voice and is certainly one of the best voice actors I’ve come across in years of my audio book addiction. I will definitely come back to the work of both of these artists!

Utterly boring

No real plot, no suspense, lots of repetition
Main character is a 6 month old baby and her mother, and that’s all there is to be said about this utterly boring book

Wundervoll gesprochen!!!

Fairy tale

Listening to this story I was wondering how I would feel if I were one of the women, if I'd have the same feeling of guilt. I found the guilt question exaggerated. The way things turn out in the end, the really guilty perish in an attempt to save somebody else (atonement??), and everything ends for the best for the really innocent. Though I liked the way the characters were described and on the whole enjoyed listening to the story, the plot in itself seemed dissatisfying, unconvincing, even far-fetched.

Boring Story and annoying characters

This audiobook is only worth listening to if you just gave birth or are somehow obsessed with babies. The main character's Baby, Freya, is mentioned every 5 minutes for no apparent reason. There are Long passages describing the breastfeeding, suckeling, gurgeling noises and whatever else it is babies do. Nothing ever happens to the the Baby though and it is not clear to me why she was introduced as a character at all. Other than that, the mystery is easy to figure out and the "big secret" isn't that big. All characters are one-dimensional and boring. Not worth your time.

Amazing

You're drawn into the story from the very beginning. Couldn't stop listening. Imogen Church is so much more than a speaker. Her voice, her capacity to create the personalities of the individual characters plus a very well written story make this audio book a great experience for the listener.

Fantastic narrator, story w/o climax

Rather amongst my least favorite books. Nicely written, I enjoyed the narration and the language, the story was unfortunately rather flat

Much Ado About nearly Nothing

4 former schoolmates concealed a suicide and 17 years later behave as if they personaly have ordered the Holocaust. Even so it is not bad written, I can't go along with it. May be you might believe they were complete idiots at 15, but at 32? Come on......

sehr spannende Geschichte
