The title may introduce the plot, but it is much more than that.
This is character-driven not action-packed and pleasant because of that.
Along with the new admin Rosemary Harper, who has her own reasons to choose spacer life, we join the multi-species crew of the Wayfarer.
And we learn about different species, life, love,
friendship, philosophy and politics.
It's interesting, funny, serious, everything..

A pleasantly slow space opera.

Although the back story is straightforward, this is one of the books where you can dwell in the details Becky Chambers arranges. The sensible and cautious reading style of Ms Rodriques even more adds to the sensible creation of the world. All those relationships between the characters! All that wonderful stuff happening in he books! For example if one of the characters dies, I really craved, I had admit, this tore me. it really was a joy reading that book. And its really hard to convince you, dearest reader, to read that book without spoiling anything. if you're into technical sci fi but a little tired of it, and want to focus more on personal relations (but in a sci fi scenario) - go for it.

Mit "The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet" habe ich mich etwas schwer getan. Die Geschichte fängt sehr gut und spannend an. Sie hat mich ein wenig an "Raumschiff Voyager" erinnert. Jedoch gab es auch einige Längen, weshalb sich die Geschichte zum Ende für mich sehr gezogen hat.

Trotzdem würde ich "The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet" weiterempfehlen. Es ist kein Meisterwerk, aber die Geschichte baut eine ganz eigene Welt auf, die Stück für Stück interessanter wird.

I´m not that much into SciFi but really enjoyed this book. ("Read" it for my bookclub ). Good story - even though I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second one . Great characters - I read up on Becky Chambers and wasn´t surprised that she has experience with theatre , as her characters are so vivid and relatable. Wikipedia writes "She is known for her imaginative world-building and character-driven stories." I can totally second that.
What made me enjoy the book even more is the amazing narrator. She does such a great job ! I often struggle with female narrators (in case they use too much air in the voice or there´s not enough bass / mass ) - but I will look out for more audiobooks narrated by Patricia Rodriguez for sure.

...wenn man das bei Science Fiction überhaupt erwarten kann ;)
Es erinnert tatsächlich stark an Firefly, minus die coole Action.
Das ist mir tatsächlich ein wenig zu kurz gekommmen. Dafür insgesamt der “Soap”-Faktor (Herz und Beziehungstrallala) ein wenig zu hoch. Aber das nehme ich gerne in Kauf für die packende Story, die alles in allem ein wenig an der Oberfläche bleibt, aber dennoch mitfiebern lässt. Ich will definitiv mehr von ihr hören! Die Sprecherin war klasse!
