My English Review: Good start, but then... The first few chapters set the tone for a nice, old-fashioned haunted house story, but as soon as the flashbacks to the 1950s begin, the story derails. Suddenly, you're bombarded with race and casual southern incest clichés (however grounded they may be) that make you wonder, "Did this just happen?" Moreover, none of this has any impact on the ending of the story. Said ending is then dealt with in half an hour without providing any explanation or resolving certain plot threads. How or why it happened this way isn't explained. According to the description, this doesn't seem to be the beginning of a series, meaning the quick ending stands as it is, without any resolution.
The narrator is excellent—otherwise, it's a complete waste of time!
