Most startups fail. But many of those failures are preventable. The Lean Startup is a new approach being adopted across the globe, changing the way companies are built and new products are launched.
Eric Ries defines a startup as an organization dedicated to creating something new under conditions of extreme uncertainty. This is just as true for one person in a garage or a group of seasoned professionals in a Fortune 500 boardroom. What they have in common is a mission to penetrate that fog of uncertainty to discover a successful path to a sustainable business.
The Lean Startup approach fosters companies that are both more capital efficient and that leverage human creativity more effectively. Inspired by lessons from lean manufacturing, it relies on “validated learning”, rapid scientific experimentation, as well as a number of counter-intuitive practices that shorten product-development cycles, measure actual progress without resorting to vanity metrics, and learn what customers really want. It enables a company to shift directions with agility, altering plans inch by inch, minute by minute.
Rather than wasting time creating elaborate business plans, The Lean Startup offers entrepreneurs - in companies of all sizes - a way to test their vision continuously, to adapt and adjust before it’s too late. Ries provides a scientific approach to creating and managing successful startups in a age when companies need to innovate more than ever.

Geschichte
The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won't create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren't learning from them. It's easier to copy a model than to make something new: doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1.

They say you shouldn't ask your mom whether your business is a good idea, because she loves you and will lie to you. This is technically true, but it misses the point. You shouldn't ask anyone if your business is a good idea. It's a bad question, and everyone will lie to you at least a little. As a matter of fact, it's not their responsibility to tell you the truth. It's your responsibility to find it, and it's worth doing right.

Popular blogger Cal Newport reveals the new key to achieving success and true meaning in professional life: the ability to master distraction. Many modern knowledge workers now spend most of their brain power battling distraction and interruption, whether because of the incessant pinging of devices, noisy open-plan offices or the difficulty of deciding what deserves their attention the most. When Cal Newport coined the term deep work on his popular blog, Study Hacks, in 2012, he found the concept quickly hit a nerve.

Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair. For those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less", there is an alternative.

Very interesting
It's a very good book but I would be even better if it weren't repeating the same principles over and over again.
Could be compressed by at least 50%.

Food for Thought
The core point of The Lean Startup is both very well presented and extremely important for anyone who makes decisions in the face of uncertainty. I could nitpick about details here, but this would be beside the point. If I had understood this core idea earlier, I could have saved years of work on ill-fated personal projects, by invalidating the respective false assumption that doomed them much more quickly. Listening to this makes me wonder how it applies beyond enterprises: how often do we execute pointless plans with apparent efficiency?

An essential book for any founder
Packed with solid information, all about the 'lean' method - getting your product out there quickly and developing it afterwards. Great advice for any founder, or soon-to-be founder! I say this with the greatest respect to Eric Ries, but his voice isn't the most... engaging, shall we say. Sounds a bit like a sleepy robot. Very knowledgable in his field though! 4 stars.

a classic must-read
this is a classic of startup literature. it's been around for a few years but is simply a great story that's not too chatty and not too theoretical. I also appreciate authors reading their own books. great job on that too! TLDR: a successful startup opimizes learning (not cash), make experiments with measurable outcome and thus profit from validates learning.
