Über diesen Titel

This searing and inspiring prequel to ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY is the story of Cassie Logan's grandfather. Paul-Edward is the son of a white father and a half-black, half-Indian mother. His father raises him almost as if he were white, but when it counts, he's treated as a black man with racist spite and hatred. He cannot fit into either the black world or the white world. The one thing that Paul-Edward loves is the land, and he spends the rest of his life trying to own land of his own. He takes on a variety of jobs, and is brutally cheated and mistreated by his white employers, but he eventually succeeds, at great personal and financial cost, in owning his own patch of land.©2001 Mildred D. Readers...will grab this and be astonished by its powerful story. (Booklist, starred review)

Taylor's gift for combining history and storytelling is as evident here as in her other stories about the Logan family. (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

It has a clear story line that makes it work very well as an audio book. The story is truly touching: Set in the south after the Civil war, a young man, son of a freed black woman and her former owner, fights hard to understand his situation in life. It is a story of friendship, of struggle, of overcoming adversity.
This is young adult fiction, but it works well for adults too. The story is both extremely sad, tragic, and hopeful.
It was a joy to listen to this book, also because of the quality of voice the narrator brings to it.

Touching story, beautifully narrated
