This is a really good book on how to improve an aspect of your business (or your life, like health), a process or even a whole system. The framework “Model for improvement”, which is based on Deming’s PDSA cycle, is not so well known outside of the healthcare sector, but it is quite applicable to other industries, like the authors show via many examples. It is really valuable, for one thing: it is simple and thus accessible to all people who might be involved in an improvement project. Around the basic framework you can add advanced tools if needed (like DoE), or you can use simpler tools if that’s more suitable for the project or the people involved (like run charts). (Perceived) over-structure or complexity is for example often a detractor for Six Sigma improvement projects, even among engineers.
This is a book written so that the reader can learn something valuable. It is not just a “sales channel” for the authors, which it might reasonably be as well. It also shows a concrete way of implementing W. E. Deming’s ideas for management and system improvement. The approach is down-to-earth and practical.
The only drawback is the unfortunate omission of any PDF support for the many charts and tables presented in the book. I decided to order a printed copy.
