Oscar Wilde
The Happy Prince is one of Oscar Wilde’s most beloved and poignant fairy tales, blending rich symbolism with a heartfelt narrative about compassion, sacrifice, and love. Set high above a city, the story follows a gilded statue—the Happy Prince—who once lived in luxury but now sees the suffering of the poor from his lofty perch. With the help of a kind-hearted Swallow, the Prince gives away all he has to bring joy and relief to the needy below.
As the Swallow delays his migration to Egypt to carry out the Prince’s wishes, both characters learn the profound value of generosity and selflessness. Through poetic prose and moral depth, Wilde delivers a timeless reflection on true nobility—not of birth or wealth, but of spirit.
Perfect for listeners of all ages, this touching parable continues to resonate as a tale of emotional truth and quiet heroism.
