First the story is great, caching and in an interesting format, Personal narration. This, allows to present the heroine as really humane, with virtues and faults that give a great color to the dark story behind...

And as a fascinating plus, the story is narrated by an actress (pretty talented one) that transmit real feeling to the story, happiness, regret, sadness resentment...

It's truly a great audiobook!!!

Captivating storyline but also makes it scary at times thinking of what ifs .. what if this is the reality of today or tomorrow .. what if this was the case ages ago.. what if it’s happening and we aren’t event realising it

It really is written as a report and open ended.

shocking

This literary work creates such a tight, distressingly oppressive atmosphere that it keeps your breath shallow throughout - a good hint at what the protagonist is feeling.
Fans of the TV-Series will be disappointed at the lack of "action" or even "story", as this was greatly embellished on the screen.
The book is like a magnifying glass held up in front of the protagonist (not even her name is disclosed to us) and her alone: everything that "happens" is her inner world; her thoughts and ruminations on the past and the present.
In doing this, the author manages to convey the horror of a totalitarian regime better than any garish or lavish descriptions could.
This, for me, is world literature which should be read by each and every one of us.

Elisabeth Moss is the recognizable voice of the protagonist, whom she plays in the series. She does a good job, although her tone is bit too flat and monotonous for my taste and I dislike the constant use of vocal fry.

Very well written and read. Definitely recommend it. The story is fascinating and the characters are well though out and go through a personal development.

It's a beautiful book, the narrator makes you feel the quiet fear of the protagonist.

A beautifully horrid, yet quiet dystopia

Ich habe die ersten beiden Folgen von „The Handmaid’s Tale“ gesehen und mich danach entschlossen, aufs Audiobook umzusatteln.

Die Geschichte ist ganz interessant, wenn auch etwas wirr erzählt und ohne ein zufriedenstellendes Ende. Allerdings hat mir die träge, monotone Stimme fast jegliche Zuhörfreude genommen. Die Geschichte wird so teilnahmslos vorgetragen, bzw. -geflüstert, jegliche Intonation fehlt. Wirklich schade. Vielleicht sollte man beim nächsten Mal doch wieder lieber professionelle Sprecher und nicht Schauspieler casten...
