The Halflings Gem ist das Finale der Icewind Dale Trilogie und gleichzeitig ihr Höhepunkt. Man merkt, wie der Autor von Teil zu Teil von seinen Fehlern lernte und seine Stärken erkannte. Die Kämpfe sind für meinen Geschmack immer noch zu lang und zu detailliert erzählt, aber was Charakterentwicklung und Spannungsaufbau betrifft, hat Salvatore ab hier seine Stimme als Autor gefunden. Tatsächlich ist auch die Story diesmal etwas komplexer als in den vorhergehenden Bänden, auch wenn es in dieser Hinsicht durchaus noch Platz nach oben gibt.
