In the beginning of each chapter, the music overlaps with narration for a little while. Its very hard to understand these parts. Had to go back multible times.

It’s always a pleasure to read and even more so to listen to Neil Gaiman’s soothing voice reading his incredibly astonishing stories.
And this has to be one of his best.

Really a wonderful story with colorful characters, beautifully performed by the lovely Neil Gaiman. Listened to it 3 times already and there will be more to come.

Timeless Tale

Vermutlich bemerkt jeder Erwachsene, der viel liest, irgendwann repetitive Muster, und die sich abnutzende Magie von fantastischen Romanen. Aber immer mal wieder findet sich dann doch wieder eine Geschichte, die einen mit einem wehmütigen und doch warmen Herz und Tränen in den Augen zurück lässt. Das hier ist so eine. Im Englischen vom Autor selbst gelesen ist es zusätzlich eins der best gelesenen Hörbücher in meiner Erinnerung.

This is a lovely and enchanting childhood story, very nicely told. Neil Gaiman found the perfect tone for this absurd, but charming little narrative.

The gruesome and bloody initial event, the murder of a whole family, is quickly abandoned and all the attention is given to the baby left behind. The little toddler, who just learned to make his first steps, escapes the murderer and stumbles into the nearby graveyard, where he finds love and protection.

The little guy is given the name Bod, short for "Nobody" and he grows up among ghosts, a vampire, a witch and a werewolf, who all together take care of him. Regardless of the bizarre setting, the story is just a lovely childhood story with a lot of little pieces of wisdom and insight thrown in. Of course there is also first love and some dramatic adventures, Bod will meet ghouls and find a treasure, but nothing of that will really raise your blood pressure. Finally it will come to a confrontation between Bod and Jack, the murderer of his family.

I loved this little fairy tale, it is unusual and highly entertaining. Some of Bod's naïve questions remind me of Exupery's "The Little Prince", somehow the magic in the 2 books is very similar.

Wonderful book with some of the most capturing storytelling and characters I have heard in a long time. I basically finished in two days because I could not put it down.

I just finished it, so the last recent happenings are still fresh. I HATE it when endings make me cry.

It's a beautiful story, full of little details brought to life by someone who mastered the art of telling stories and fantasies and misteries.

For shure I would have heared things differently in my head if I had read the book to my self. Some emotions, some names. But who am I to criticize the author on reading his own book in his own way? Especially this author.

It might be true: This might be the best book Neil Gaiman has ever written. And eaven if it's not, it's beautiful.

Excellent charming story by Neil Gaiman, and his narration is mostly good, though he can vary a bit too much in volume making it hard to pick up some paragraphs. This is made worse in chapter openining when 10x louder music is added in to hurt our ears and make us turn down the volume.
