Bei Hörbüchern erwarte ich zumindest kompetentes Vorlesen. Es hängt unter anderem von dem Stoff des Hörbuchs ab, aber Vorlesen können sollte jeder.
Frau Miles allerdings? Sie liest nicht vor, sie *erzählt* die Geschichte wie es ein Erzähler tut, mit Seufzern und Lauten, welche den Inhalt des Buches in eine Weise vermitteln, der ans Herz geht. Die abgewürgte Stimme der Hauptperson, wie sie von ihrem Leid erzählt, klingt durch den Text und bleibt an einem hängen. Das letzte Mal habe ich so eine fesselnde Erzählung von Rupert Degas gehört. Einfach wunderbar.
Und falls es nicht klar war: die Geschichte und Handlung des Buches ist ebenfalls erstklassig und hat zu recht ihren Hugo bekommen.

I’m writing this review to let the world know that I am stunned by the narrators beautiful voice, her incredible capacity for accent without a hint of real world stereotyping and the incredible ability to make a good dozen characters sound perfectly distinguishable and full of emotion imperfect, keeping of the plot. Would give more than five stars if I could - THIS is why it’s called voice acting.
