Ich muss mich hier einfach mal über Robin Miles auslassen.

Bei Hörbüchern erwarte ich zumindest kompetentes Vorlesen. Es hängt unter anderem von dem Stoff des Hörbuchs ab, aber Vorlesen können sollte jeder.

Frau Miles allerdings? Sie liest nicht vor, sie *erzählt* die Geschichte wie es ein Erzähler tut, mit Seufzern und Lauten, welche den Inhalt des Buches in eine Weise vermitteln, der ans Herz geht. Die abgewürgte Stimme der Hauptperson, wie sie von ihrem Leid erzählt, klingt durch den Text und bleibt an einem hängen. Das letzte Mal habe ich so eine fesselnde Erzählung von Rupert Degas gehört. Einfach wunderbar.

Und falls es nicht klar war: die Geschichte und Handlung des Buches ist ebenfalls erstklassig und hat zu recht ihren Hugo bekommen.

Apart from the cliffhanger ending, there's not much to complain about. The world and its lore are rich and believable, the characters fleshed out and sympathetic and the narration brings it all to life beautifully.

Great and unique worldbuilding - interesting story

I came back to the Broken Earth in audio after having read the trilogy for which the author has rightly received her numerous awards.
I’m writing this review to let the world know that I am stunned by the narrators beautiful voice, her incredible capacity for accent without a hint of real world stereotyping and the incredible ability to make a good dozen characters sound perfectly distinguishable and full of emotion imperfect, keeping of the plot. Would give more than five stars if I could - THIS is why it’s called voice acting.

Wie die 3 Perspektiven sich zusammenfüegen ist wundervoll.
Es wird dem Leser aber nicht besonders leicht gemacht, sich in die Charaktere hineinzuversetzen.

Und fantastisch gelesen von der brillanten Robin Miles! Ich würde mehr als fünf Sterne geben wenn ich könnte.

This is the story of three women, each one told in a different style. They live in a strange world where people have strange powers. It took me some time to get drawn in, but as I started to understand, I was fascinated. This is not only a fantasy story. This is also and maybe even more so a social fantasy and stands in line with f.i. the Strugatzkis' works. A strange and interesting read. The speaker does a good job, too. The book is read neither too fast nor too slow. The different personae are well distinguished. I recommend the book strongly.

Das Buch startet in 3 Erzählsträngen, die die Protaginsten, und komplexe Gesellschaft und Kultur vorstellt. Da hat es etwas länger für mich gedauert wirklich Fuß zu fassen. Zudem gibt es einige recht sexuelle Stellen, die für mich etwas rausfallen und ich nicht unbedingt gebraucht hätte.
Letztlich möchte ich aber sofort mit dem zweiten Buch beginnen, um zu wissen wie es weitergeht!!
Toller Job Erklärungen zu geben und Stränge gekonnt zusammen zu führen.
