Tom McCay's expert story telling envelops you like the embrace of a warm fireside on a cold winter's night. In fact, this novelette was conceived in the hemlock and hardwood-filled Sipsey Wilderness of Bankhead Forest in North Alabama. Tom's clever and distinctly southern idiomatic language makes each sentence crackle with imagery and artifice. Equal parts Stephen King and Shelby Foote, he transports us from the present to the past in seconds. This first person narrative is so plausibly explained that one never doubts the validity of its central premise.
In The Fast Plates, Tom McCay spins a yarn about a ne'er-do-well somewhat recently discredited master craftsman of ersatz civil war artifacts who comes across the single most important genuine find of his life. After he's been exposed, what can he do when he gets his hands on the real thing?
