Über diesen Titel

What happens in our brains to make us feel fear, love, hate, anger, joy? Do we control our emotions, or do they control us? Do animals have emotions? How can traumatic experiences in early childhood influence adult behavior, even though we have no conscious memory of them? In The Emotional Brain, Joseph LeDoux investigates the origins of human emotions and explains that many exist as part of complex neural systems that evolved to enable us to survive.

One of the principal researchers profiled in Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence, LeDoux is a leading authority in the field of neural science. In this provocative book, he explores the brain mechanisms underlying our emotions—mechanisms that are only now being revealed.

The author perfectly describes based on his own scientific research, how emotions and feelings are created in animals and in humans. Based on his own scientific research in the area of fear and anxiety. The author describes what triggers the emotion, fear and anxiety. In this audiobook, it is exactly described, how these emotions are processed in the brain, and how these emotions are made conscious in the conscious brain. I would strongly recommend to skip the first chapter which is quite confusing, The rest of the book is excellent, and highly recommended!

Excellent audiobook about emotions in humans and animals

Although dated, Ledoux does a fantastic job in laying down a solid scientific groundwork as well as a mental structure to tackle the question of what emotions are and how they relate to consciousness. He takes time to build his arguments, and you have to bear going through a whole host of experiments and their results but it’s all worth to keep on going. To my mind one of the more accessible hypothesis on emotions that are firmly grounded in evidence. Hence, I’d be interested, if the evidence of recent discoveries corroborated the arguments of the book. And I believe Ledoux’ new book due to be published later this year could add to his fascinating account of emotions, consciousness, and brain functions.

Good primer for neurophiles
