Incredible debut novel with loveable characters and the promising start of a new epic fantasy series.

As a picky person with maybe high standards: beginning kept me listening enough, the middle part was good and left me with high hopes, but the end was the victim of the "not too capable just enough - evil empire" trope and a bit too many conveniences for me. The noticable amount of incompetence and Stormtrooper characteristics accumulated by the bad guys towards the ending, left me frustrated. To the point that the immersion and tension coming from them was gone for me after a time in the last third of the story. Still entertaining for anyone who isn't bothered by such things and just wants an adventure.

2.5 stars if it were possible, narrator was great
