Joe Abercrombie is, to me, the undisputed master of creating deep, distinct characters that leap off the page, and never more so than in The Devils. This book is hilarious, profound, tragic, and so thrillingly paced one scarcely has time to breathe between one calamitous adventure and the next. I loved every page, and can't wait to see where the story goes from here. Straight to hell, I hopefully suspect!

Everything from characters to plot is oozing with the typical Abercrombie moment to moment randomness, and the wonderfullly rich humor of the featured physical and mental dispositions! What a ride. Thank you to the author! And also, as always the performance was a thing beauty! A big thank you to Steven Pacey, the characters are brought to life in such a colourful way!

Fesselnd von der ersten Seite an bringt dieser in einem alternativen Europa angesiedelte Grimdark Fantasy Roman jede Menge Action, schrägen Humor, Horrorelementen und eine temporeiche Handlung, in der die Monster sympathischer sind als die (scheinbar) Guten.

What a journey! A masterpiece in writing, a masterpiece in narration. Outstanding book and audiobook. Highly recommend to anyone who loves Joe Abercrombie and grimdark with humor.

The banter was well written and the group dynamics worked well. Baptist could have had more character development. Seems like an interesting world. Will listen to the next book.
