Most characters behave in a toxic manner while at the same time complaining about the toxic behaviour of the others. Their behaviour is truly alarming, often violent and not at all acceptable.

I did not think it was romantic when some of the main characters got engaged. They behave awfully to each other throughout the tale and I’m convinced they will have an awful marriage, if they even make it to the altar without murdering each other.

I found the book entertaining once I saw it more as a tale full of caricatures instead of people, like Jeeves and Wooster. But: in Jeeves and Wooster, the author is fully aware when characters behave absurdly, while this didn’t come across here.

I won’t listen to the book again and I am glad it was in the free section of audible. It’s not worth purchasing in my opinion.

Emily Wingrave is a young lady full of spunk and compassion and - mostly - common sense. Her impetuous nature and hot temper sometimes gets the better of her however, even though she is now a woman grown. So when she goes to help her sister deal with the overbearing trustee of her husband’s estate the sparks are sure to fly. This is a story that kept me listening and frequently chuckling as twists and turns kept me guessing . Who’s stealing jewels from the ladies of the house, and what’s the matter with the youngest daughter who’s become unnaturally withdrawn? It’s a frequently bumpy and often hilarious ride to the happy ever after, and even that has its funny moments. Fun light reading!

Die Sprecherin liest viel zu schnell und ist nicht in der Lage, den Personen eine eigene Stimme zu geben. Das macht die Dialoge noch schlimmer. Stereotypes Schreiben sollte immerhin unterhalten, aber leider gelingt, dass nicht mal. Hatte nichts großes erwartet, aber das war mir einfach zu anstrengend anzuhören.
