For one I felt bait & switched from the very interesting first chapter and reader, which gets replaced for all but one chapter with the second reader which, in my opinion does not do as good a job, he returns for one chapter later, but there doesn't seem to be a consistent reason why only for those two. I felt her reading to be good for the most part but resorting to screaming too often, which took me out of the experience.
The story itself stars out mysterious but never really goes anywhere narratively statisfying. There's no character arc, she starts out at the same place she ends. After every story beat, before the main narrative continues, her background gets pulled back a bit further to set the groundwork for what is gonna stop her from succeeding next. These are pretty surface level and don't reveal anything interesting and can be seen from a mile away.
The flow of the story is very repetitive and turns predictable, as is some of the writing where words or small sentences get repeated over and over, I assume to add weight to the situations, but just made me think of a skipping record.
The mystery itself never gets resolved, not a single question answered, there are weak threads left hanging which would be fine if there was any character work.
It had a few good athmospheric scenes, which I liked.
If the ending happened 3 minutes earlier, I might've appreciated it more.
I left extremely disappointed, didn't help that the last 25 minutes are just ads for two other books of the author.
