The Bright Sword is such a beautiful and unique telling of the King Arthur Myth, unusual especially because Arthur's role is almost negligible. It is a wild and wonderful mix of historical accuracy and complete anachronism, masterfully put together. Collum's journey towards knighthood and self-discovery is one full of wonders and horrors alike. So many of the minor characters grew on me quickly and I've shed an impressive amount of tears for their struggles and successes. Especially the effortless depiction of queer characters, their very normal and extraordinary lives, hardships and victories, touched and impressed me greatly. A great story worth listening to.

Die Geschichte folgt einer interessanten Erzählweise, weil sie immer auf eine neue Person fokussiert. Die Verwebung von historischen Errignissen und Sagen ist toll gemacht. Der Sprecher miemt verschiedene Charaktere beeindruckend nach.

Tolle Erzählung der Artus-Sage in einer pfiffigen Weise mit einem fantastischen Sprecher

My German review: Eine ungwöhnliche Variante der Artus-Sage die die Saga um die verbliebenen Ritter der Tafelrunde fortführt. Ein Epos voller interessanter (und LGBTQ+) Charaktere, aber auch vielen Anachronismen (hab's gegoogelt - das Word "f**k wurde erst im Jahr 1310 zum ersten mal offiziel als Schimpfwort gebraucht, also ein paar Jahrhunderte später als hier).

Alles in allem ein sehr gutes Buch, dass vielleicht etwas zusehr mäandert, dafür jedoch die Welt Camelots und Excaliburs zu neuem Leben erweckt.

My English review: Old School setting - modern language and themes. An unusual variant of the Arthurian legend that continues the saga about the remaining knights of the Round Table. An epic full of interesting (and LGBTQ+) characters, but also lots of anachronisms (I googled it - the word "f**k was only officially used as a swear word for the first time in 1310, a few centuries later than here).

All in all, a very good book that perhaps meanders a bit too much, but brings the world of Camelot and Excalibur to new life.

This book is fanatically woke, and anyone who loves old English history and culture will feel truly hurt. So: the Round Table obviously consisted of gays, women, Muslims, and transsexuals. White men are just dumb and brutal. That is the woke message of the book. Even as a homosexual reader, I felt secondhand embarrassment for this book. Aside from that, it is also boring. As is typical for woke people, they mostly just sit around and complain.

Woke and ridiculous.
