Über diesen Titel

Honest and moving, this inspirational memoir from Harry Potter stuntman David Holmes reveals what it's like to rebuild your life in the wake of tragedy - with plenty of behind-the-scenes Potter anecdotes along the way.

NARRATED BY THE AUTHOR, WITH A FOREWORD BY DANIEL RADCLIFFE NARRATED BY TOBY LAURENCE.

As stunt double to Daniel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter film franchise, stuntman David Holmes helped to move J.K. Rowling's era-defining story from the page to the big screen. His work as a real-life Fall Guy enabled him to create some of the most memorable action sequences in the Wizarding World, as he became the first person ever to play Quidditch. In living his own hero's journey, David was also one of only a handful of people to have worn the iconic wizard's cape, glasses and scar in front of the cameras.

That is, until an accident changed his life forever.

During the making of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, David broke his neck in a stunt rehearsal and was instantly paralysed. From talented junior gymnast and stunt prodigy to fully qualified Hollywood stuntman, his story is a brutally honest portrait of a man who lost everything but found different ways to reimagine new possibilities with love, friendship and optimism - and he later co-created a BAFTA-nominated documentary about his life. David's behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest film series of all time is both jaw-dropping and hilarious.

Powerful and emotional, his is a story of hope and vulnerability and paints a picture of what it truly takes to rebuild a life and become The Boy Who Lived. ©2024 Ripple Productions (Essex) Limited

I don’t think I‘ve laughed and simultaneously cried that much while listening to a documentary. It’s even stronger that David Holmes was able to read everything himself despite his condition. It’s heartbreaking to hear someone suffer that much but at the same time I think it’s also inspiring to see how much fighting through life can pay off!

What a inspiring story!

The audiobook is fantastic . I had to listen through to the end, and not just because of David's story, but also because of the way it is told. I laughed so much, but also cried.
He is a great inspiration and an incredible person.
This audiobook has definitely changed my life and the way I look at things in many ways.

It is Fantastic

…that David reads the book himself. It took me a little to get used to his voice, which is different from many professional speakers. However, a couple of minutes into the book, when he explained how much it means to him to be able to read the book himself while he still can, it hit me hard.
This is his story, and David’s decision to read it himself was 100% right. I encourage everyone who might have the same first impression as I did to keep going. This book is absolutely worth being finished.
I can confidently say this book changed my perspective on life and disabilities. I was that person thinking people in wheelchairs miss being able to walk. Hearing that many other things are missed much more showed me how blind I was. Thanks David for sharing your story, and thereby helping me to understand our world just a little better.

At first, I wasn‘t thrilled…
