Wundervoll gesprochen. spannende Charaktere. Am Anfang etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig. Aber dann sehr fesselnd und Ffordes typisch viele Anspielungen diesmal auf altbekannte Märchen

The Nursery Crime series is Fforde at his absolute best. Sadly it consists of only two books. Fforde did announce the title for a third one ("The Last Great Tortoise Race"), but that was years ago, and I've lost hope that it will ever be published. :(

So I decided to revisit Jack Spratt's strange and wonderful world on audio, and I'm pleased to say that I enjoyed the stories just as much as I did when I read them nearly twenty years ago. The narrator is excellent, I loved his performance both on this one and the sequel ("The Fourth Bear").

The series is perfect for anyone who enjoys fantasy novels with rather absurd storylines and characters. If you're familiar with old English nursery rhymes you'll enjoy it even more (if not you probably will not get all the jokes).

Fforde at his best

It's absurd, funny and full of references of which I sadly understand only half being non-british. Also it lifts the mystery of what becomes of Cavesham Heights after Thursday Next, Lola and Randolf turn it into a sanctuary fur nursery rhyme characters in The Well of Lost Plots. So also full of insider jokes for Fforde-fans.
I very much enjoyed it. Bravo!

It took me a while to get into the story, but I ended up becoming a fan of the NCD.
