    Inhaltsangabe

It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.

The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined - every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute...and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

It has taken me 2 weeks to suffer through this

This audiobook cannot keep up with the Hunger Games (and Catching Fire). I did not care about any of the characters. I am not sure if it is because of the weak performance - I find Fontana's voice and diction "news and documentary voice", totally unsuitable for fiction especially one with important female characters (somebody made a comment about them sounding like Mickey Mouse - I don't know what Mickey Mouse sounds like, they reminded me of Peter Griffin) and (too) many songs. The idea behind the story is quite good though.

    Good book - terrible production

I've never heard a man do female voices so badly. No woman speaks like that. Not a single line spoken by a woman carries any emotion. On top of that the audio book is split into chapters almost randomly. The second part of the book starts in the middle of a paragraph! I wish I had bought the book and not the audio book.

Mickey Mouse destroys excellent story. Too bad.

I tried very hard to listen to this audiobook. The story is excellent but I failed because all female characters have weird Mickey Mouse voices. No women/girl speaks like that. Whenever Mickey Mouse started to speak, I couldn't stop giggling. That destroyed the story for me. I need to gain some distance, and then read the book.

    New insights into Snow's motives

What did I expect of a novel whose hero is the arch nemesis of Katniss Everdeen? Well, something like that. Everytime Snow faces a decision on how to act apropriately, you hope... but you know better. The novel is a lot about inner conflicts and taking the easy way out. It echos in your brain. Definitely worth hearing.

Story (maybe) great - speaker terrible

I have never heard an audiobook with a more desinterested speaker than this one. He speaks so monotonous that it's hard to listen more than 10 minutes. This is super sad because the main series Hunger Games was one of the best i've ever heard :(
My recommendation: buy the book and read it yourself. Otherwise you will hardly get anything from the story.

    Okay but not mindblowing

The story is interesting and kept me listening. Personally I found it to have some weaknesses, particularly the behaviour of the main character in the final chapters of the book. While everything appears to have been there right from the start to me the events that unfolded seemed still a bit far fetched, which tells me that the character development lacks believability. Overall, I found myself entertained by the (maybe slightly too long) story and that's a good thing. I'd give it 3.5 stars, but since I have to choose between three or four, I'd rather go with the three. good fun!

I have serious problems with the reader though. While his tone and intonation fits the main character well, in my opinion, his intonation of women is terrible. Furthermore, for a story where songs have such an important part in, the spoken word recitation of the respective lyrics is horrible as well, lacking rhythm and gravitas. This is especially true for the hanging tree song, since there's an actual version performed in the hunger games movies.

If you're looking for smth more to read/listen in the Hunger Games universe, this prequel is interesting enough to check out. be aware that, at least to me, it comes with some flaws.

Kommt nicht an The Hunger Games ran

Meiner Meinung nach nicht im Stil wie The Hunger Games geschrieben. Nicht sehr tiefgründig, es passiert recht viel recht schnell und recht unspektakulär.
    Epische Hunger Games Momente fehlen.
Muss nicht sein, man kann es anhören...

Boring, uninspired, not worth the time and money

Uninspired, the story drags along. No comparison to the first three books, this afterthought may have been cooked up by somebody else to gain some points by relation.
I will return it - every invested minute is one minute lost.

    Cruel

I think it was a good book, but cruel like the rest of them! It gets you to think. By listening to it you get into Snows mind, which is frightening.
