Über diesen Titel

The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake is the runaway TikTok must-listen fantasy novel of the year, read by a full cast of narrators. If you loved Ninth House and A Deadly Education, you’ll love this.

Secrets. Betrayal. Seduction.

Welcome to the Alexandrian Society.

When the world’s best magicians are offered an extraordinary opportunity, saying yes is easy. Each could join the secretive Alexandrian Society, whose custodians guard lost knowledge from ancient civilizations. Their members enjoy a lifetime of power and prestige. Yet each decade, only six practitioners are invited—to fill five places.

Contenders Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona are inseparable enemies, cosmologists who can control matter with their minds. Parisa Kamali is a telepath, who sees the mind’s deepest secrets. Reina Mori is a naturalist who can perceive and understand the flow of life itself. And Callum Nova is an empath, who can manipulate the desires of others. Finally there’s Tristan Caine, whose powers mystify even himself.

Following recruitment by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they travel to the Society’s London headquarters. Here, each must study and innovate within esoteric subject areas. And if they can prove themselves, over the course of a year, they’ll survive. Most of them.

The story continues in The Atlas Paradox, the heart-stopping sequel.

Originally a self-published sensation, this edition has been fully edited and revised. Now includes the short story Sacred Hospitality.

Some bad readers

The story is okay-not as amazing as people have been saying, but interesting enough. The book ends on not one, but several cliffhangers, but the biggest issue are the narrators.

There are several, one for each POV character. None are amazing, but most are okay. Two are really bad. Stressing sentences incorrectly, running things together so it's hard to follow who's speaking in a dialog, and/or just grating and annoying at times.

I would have enjoyed this much more with better narrators. (Or evert just one, if they were good.)

Meh

I had read the book before and wanted to listen to it as a reminder, before reading the second book. Well, i should have just stuck to reading it myself. Did not enjoy the narrators‘ voices at all - however, I know that that’s highly subjective so you might like them. I found Libby‘s voice actor was the best because it was neutral. Tristan’s actor on the other hand was horrendous. It made me skip all the Tristan chapters. The story is good but I would only recommend listening to the audiobook if you’ve already read the book before - that way you can skip some of the more annoying voices.

It’s a fun story

This isn’t a literary masterpiece, it also isn’t terrible.
It was a fun story to hear, I really enjoyed the actors‘ performance. There are lots of questions left unanswered but I hope the second book will answer them and will explore the characters personalities more.

Not what I had expected.

I actually kept circling back to this book over and over before I actually decided I would give it a go. It sounded interesting enough, but not enticing.
So I gave it a go. The beginning is a bit slow. A few characters are a bit annoying/hard to like, but other characters sort of make up for it by being quite interesting.
Important to know is, that you need a bit of time to warm up to the book. Give it an extensive amount of time to really grab you.
Also: keep an open mind about the characters.
I know this all sounds weird as I have the book 5 stars, but bear with me on this one.
After thinking this book would simply just use up a bit of spare time, it quickly morphed into something else entirely. I began to love it. The characters began to grow on me (except two of them) and the story began to really grow a body. It became more and more detailed, alive and it kept you hooked.
Very fun book with a few good plot twists to keep you on your toes when you least expect it.
The way it’s done with different speakers is also simply perfection. It brings the story to life so nicely, that I could not imagine it without.
Would definitely recommend.

Halfbaked

Beginning with the upsides: I liked the magics, the characters and at least to some degree their development. But I totally disliked the way this book ends. Actually, it does not end at all. It just hangs in space (and -- a little pun: time). There is not even a cliff to hang from. Close to the end, the story makes unconvincing twists, the main characters stop developing, at least one previously peripheral one takes center stage, new ones are emerging without being introduced at all.

When the timer says "still about one hour to go" and the listener hopes that all of this makes some exciting sense in the end, the book as such ends and you are offered to listen to a short story from the author. Of course, this book is intended to have a sequel or being built into a multivolumed piece, but ending a book literally mid-story (feels like mid-sentence) feels like a disregard to the listener.

Just okay

Some of the readers were really weird and the overall tone of the 6 seem to have not been discussed beforehand so they sounded pretty different in every chapter.

The story sadly didn’t excite me that much. It took me half the book to get into the story. I read it first and didn’t feel like finishing, which is why I listened to the rest as an audiobook.

Read the book

I genrally love audiobooks. But havng one character read by six different voice actors makes it very hard to follow. The characters are of international backgrounds but this is completely lost in dialect due to the audio speakers who all seem to be english or american accents.
There were so many voice actors cast for this one book. But instead of each speaker reading their characters lines, each voice actor reads our a chapter.

This a good example of too many resources and not enough planning, which has really botched this audiobook.
It's a shame as the story seems interesting. I will be getting a refund and will just read it instead and for any following sequels as well.

Really hard on the ears

The story is entertaining enough if you ran out of things to do on a weekend, but some of the voice actors are just not great. it’s not the accent that bothers me but the unnatural intonation and weird emphasis on random words. One listener recommended reading the book and skipping some of the chapters, which sounds like a decent enough idea to me but I didn’t read them so… meh
