The story culminates and comes to what feels like a beautiful end/conclusion. I never got bored during the story and sometimes even stepped back a few phrases/sentences or even a chapter since I really wanted to understand what was going on in the sometimes fast-paced course of events (who knows the series, can probably imagine, that events will occur in a much denser frequency in this finale of the series). The cast and well distinguishable voices of the characters help a lot keeping an overview in these scenarios and is – just as in the previous parts and in my humble opinion, of course – very skilled in conveying the emotions of the protagonists. I’ll most definitely listen to the series a few more times since it’s altogether one of the most beautifully written stories – including a plausible approach to the Mystery, that “Consciousness” still represents to Science, as much as “Dark Matter” and “Dark Energy” does. And the idea of forming such an – as I would intuitively call it – “Epic” around it, makes it an even more exciting field to me now. Well, whatever we will find out about the Mysteries in a later time, the “Gedankenexperiment” (thought experiment) of these novels will certainly be one of the most intriguing approaches to this topic, that no one can at this point approach with the slightest glimpse of certainty. And yet, the imaginations, that Mr. Pullman presents in his series, are astonishingly fascinating and even feel plausibly woven with the current scientific facts. And the way, the novels also interconnect science with religious mythology/belief, are also part of their fascinating attraction to me. All in all, I can 100% recommend this novel (series) for everyone with the slightest philosophical inclination, regardless if from the theological or scientific community.

Ich kann nur sagen: Hört euch die Trilogie an, sie ist jede Minute Eurer Zeit wert. Eine so gelungene Lesung habe ich selten gehört und auch die Geschichte lässt an Spannung und Emotionen nicht missen :-)

The voice of Lyra has even been getting more annoying since book one. I have to tune down the volume whenever she starts with her cacophony. The other parts are sometimes rather quiet, so it is always a real shock when she starts.

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

Ich habe die Trilogie "His Dark Materials" mehrfach gehört und immer wieder aufs Neue genossen.

Dass ich ein Hörbuch mehrfach hören kommt nur sehr selten vor, und nur wenn irgendetwas aussergewöhnlich ist.

In diesem Fall passt alles: Der Sprecher, obwohl auch Autor, spricht sehr angenehm und professionell und ist auch für non-native Speaker absolut gut verständlich. Die Sprache ist klar und deutlich, so dass auch der Englisch-Lerneffekt nicht zu kurz kommt. Er hat eine sehr warme Stimme, welche die Liebenswürdigkeit der Charaktere unterstreicht

Und das Wichtigste ist natürlich die Geschichte: Ich liebe phantasievolle Erzählungen, die einen in eine andere Welt entführen. Und im Gegensatz zum Herrn der Ringe kommen hier keine Längen, wo man am liebsten vorspulen würde.

I had so high expectations from the first two books and this is just dissatisfying and disappointing . The difference in quality between the journey and Revelation is staggering , what a waste of potential endings.

Das dritte Buch hat mir leider nicht mehr so gut gefallen. Die Geschichte spitzt sich zu früh zu, rennt von einem Höhepunkt zum nächsten. Und das Ende war wirklich unbefriedigend. Es ist kein schlechtes Buch, aber mit der Erwartung aus den ersten beiden Teilen fällt dieses doch ab.

Es ist gut gelesen, obwohl sich ein paar Stimmen ändern, was ich für eine Trilogie unvorteilhaft finde.

'The Amber Spyglass' is the third and last book in Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. It is good, but not nearly as engaging as the previous two books in the series, 'The Golden Compass' and 'The Subtle Knife'. I must say that I didn't love 'The Amber Spyglass', but I'm glad I listen to this audio book.

The books in 'His Dark Materials' are the kind of books that make you happy to listen to. They are full of magic, interesting characters and weird events. In a nutshell, they make you dream and awake your imagination. Additionally you have come so far with the first and second part that you definitely want to know how the story ends.

From my point of view, that is extremely important, and that is the reason why I recommend 'The Amber Spyglass', even though I only give it 3 stars. Truth to be told, the real value of this book is not to be found as a standalone, but rather as the conclusion of an outstanding trilogy that is already a classic.

After two great parts a let down.
