when ferris said something along the lines of "as if posessed by a fury wich is funny if you know history" (cant remember the exact quote) that does imply this series and the furies of alera series being in the same world no?

It is really, really hard to not love Jim Butcher's writing. No matter if Dresden Files, Codex Alera, or the Spires - The characters are solid as always, the world building is wonderful, the language flows and crashes and rushes all through your brain.

Euan Morton's performance for this book makes my spine tingle. His range, from feminine-wile-y creepy af Cavendish to adorably gory Rowl, is just fantastic. I just bought two more audiobooks narrated by him, and although I'm sad that those aren't Cinder Spires 2 and 3, I'm excited to listen to them.

Sehr schönes Hörbuch, fantastisch und spannend geschrieben. Grossartig gelesen von Euan Morton. Leider gibt es noch keine Fortsetzung.

Steampunk never knew what hit it when Misters relatives started talking I reckon. JB really shows he is so much more than the wisecracking tongue in cheek walking apocalypse HD. So happy to start a new journey with him.

Tolle Geschichte. Spannung, Tiefe Abwechslung. Lohnt sich für jeden der neue Welten zu entdecken liebt und etwas Pathos, Witz und abwechslungsreiche Charaktere zu schätzen weiß.

Utterly and wholly entrancing. A fireworks of witt, colourful characters, exciting twists and a truly superb narrator! Wordbanding at it's finest. WOW Butcher is ever better.

Wer Jim Butcher von den Dresden Files kennt, weiß dass er spannende Geschichten und gute Charaktere zu schreiben versteht. Auch hier entäuscht er diesbezüglich nicht.
Zwar sind einige der Charaktere durchaus stereotypisch, doch mich persönlich stört das nicht so sehr, weil sie dennoch gut geschrieben sind.
So erinnert etwa eine sehr von sich überzeugte Katze namens Raul, welche eine der Protagonistinnen begleitet, sehr an Mister, den großen Kater von Harry Dresden. Wie Raul "seinem" Menschen gestattet, ihn zu begleiten, so erhält auch Harry die großmütige "Erlaubnis" von Mister, in seinem Reich zu wohnen. Allerdings fehlt Mister im Gegensatz zu Raul die Möglichkeit der Kommunikation, so dass letzterer einen viel größeren Anteil an der Geschichte erhält als der Magier-Kater.
Sehr gelungen ist das Szenario bzw. die Welt, die Butcher hier für seine Geschichte entworfen hat. Ohne zu viel vorweg zu nehmen, ist das Setting eine Mischung aus Freibeuterei, Steampunk und geheimnisvoller Welt, deren Boden wohl zu gefährlich ist, um darauf zu wohnen. Also leben die Menschen alle in gewaltigen Türmen und segeln mit Schiffen durch die Luft, um Bodenkontakt möglichst zu meiden.
Der Sprecher macht seine Sache ebenfalls hervorragend. Er moduliert seine Stimme für jeden Charakter, macht es einfach sie zu unterscheiden und haucht ihnen damit zugleich Persönlichkeit ein. Dabei vermeidet er Übertreibungen, wie ich es auch schon gelegentlich gehört habe.
Alles in allem eine spannende Geschichte und ich freue mich auf die Fortsetzungen.
