Über diesen Titel
USA Today bestselling author Loretta Chase continues her Difficult Dukes series with this delightful spin on Shakespeare's classic, The Taming of the Shrew.
This time, who’s taming whom…
Cassandra Pomfret holds strong opinions she isn’t shy about voicing. But her extremely plain speaking has caused an uproar, and her exasperated father, hoping a husband will rein her in, has ruled that her beloved sister can’t marry until Cassandra does.
Now, thanks to a certain wild-living nobleman, the last shreds of Cassandra’s reputation are about to disintegrate, taking her sister’s future and her family’s good name along with them.
The Duke of Ashmont’s looks make women swoon. His character flaws are beyond counting. He’s lost a perfectly good bride through his own carelessness. He nearly killed one of his two best friends. Still, troublemaker that he is, he knows that damaging a lady’s good name isn’t sporting.
The only way to right the wrong is to marry her…and hope she doesn’t smother him in his sleep on their wedding night.

More than just a romance
I liked the first book of the difficult dukes very much, because it was so funny and entertaining. Yet it was not very deep.
This entry in the series was! Cassandra is fierce and intelligent. Lucius is not very smart, very drunk and not a paragon at the beginning.
But he learns a lot and we with him about the struggle of women and poor people. The book cites Mary Wollstonecrafts work.
The lovestory felt very sincere and heartwarming.
I loved this book for the feelings it gave me and for the many thoughts I spend on it even after finishing it
And god, I am so invested in the story of Aunt Julia and Uncle Frederic... I can't wait for the next book

Entertaining tale with depth
Loretta Chase is now on my list of default authors. This book is often hilarious, full of varied characters, and touches on some subjects that give historical context and depth. The situation of women and attitudes towards the poor make for a more interesting story without detracting at all from the entertainment value of what is essentially a lighthearted read. I thoroughly enjoyed the ways in which the heroine and her mother dealt with difficult situations - hope I learned a thing or two about clever tactics! I had the audio book and Kate Reading’s performance is superb. Her name as narrator will recommend any future audio book I consider.

Very funny! Please make it into a film!
Funny dialogues and also well researched. Apart from English, I also learned something about the beginnings of the women's movement. I then read about Mary Wollstonecraft's history and of her comrades-in-arms on Wikipedia. The cover pictures and book covers are terrible. Please - this could be done more intelligently, ironically and aesthetically! It doesn't do justice to the content. I would be terribly embarrassed to read such a book in the presence of fellow human beings. I even try to avoid having the audiobook image visible on my phone when I listen to the book on the train. Otherwise, I hope that someone will please come up with the idea of making a film of this book. Until then I wish all listeners a lot of fun!

I wish I had read it!
I like the trope normally. Strong feminist woman and spoiled rake. But the way these characters are portrayed is not credible. I blame this mostly on the reader. The way the duke speaks makes him seem very stupid. I get that he is supposed to be very ignorant, but I don't think he is supposed to be daft. Yet that is excactly what he sounds like.
I have similar issues with the heroine. She doesn't sound like the grounded she is, but much rather like a haughty woman. If she sounded pasionate, she would have made much more sence to me.
