In Arcadia, winter has no heart.

I make magic dresses for a living. I'm not rich or pretty enough to wear them, but I love what I do, working out of my family's shop on Carnaby Street in London - until the fae show up.

It's a straight-up kidnapping, and before I know it, I'm brought to this wintry place of cold hearts and beautiful nightmares, but that's not the worst part.

The worst part is, they think I'm fae, and I'm supposed to participate in some competition against a host of other women who have been training their whole lives for this. The prize? The winner is to marry the prince.

On the surface that sounds almost like a fairy tale, only this competition is brutal and bloody, and the prince is the jerk who kidnapped me. I can't get too close to him or he'll know I'm not fae, and then I'm dead. But I want to get close to him. His body burns with the fire of a cold star, and I'm drawn to him.

I need to fight the pull and survive long enough to find a way out of here, but these winter fae won't make that easy.

The author writes in a captivating way and she has nice ideas for the monsters and the fae world... but the whole royal Batchelor situation is just - meh. I wasn't convinced.
She does bring interesting elements, I'll admit, like the MC being a seamstress and how she uses those abilities to her advantage. But even that felt a little bit forced.
The romance also doesn't make much sense, it's all just an inexplicable attraction (which to my taste doesn't fit well with this type of storyline). I wished we got to learn more about the prince to try to make sense.
Lastly the reason for her to stay/not escape is really weak. If there was at least one failed attempt, then I'd see a spine in the MC's back.
That being said, I'll continue the series to see how it's going. If you can ignore those negative points, I think this book might be interesting to you too.
Also, the narrator does an incredible job impersonating all the characters.

This story is very easy to follow and to fall in love with. It has quite the Fae tropes, but it doesn't bother. I particularly enjoyed that the heroine is a seamstress and it brought a fresh touch. I recommend to continue with the second audio book after you finished cause the pace picks up a bit. Do not expect high and epic fantasy. It is more a feel good fantasy story where you fall in love with the characters and their development as well as story.
The speaker put effort into the characters and the reading itself, I loved that, too.
Absolutely can recommend.

Dahlia ist sympathisch, schlau und nimmt ihr Leben selbst in die Hand. Ich bin schon gespannt auf Teil 2.

Sie wird entführt und verschleppt, fragt nicht einmal warum und wenn sie dann vor dem Mann steht, der dafür verantwortlich ist, ist sie nur geblendet von seiner Schönheit. anstatt ihn zu fragen, warum er sie aus ihrem Leben gerissen und sie nun untrainiert um ihr Leben kämpfen soll oder ihm zu erklären, dass sie eben nicht wie die anderen Jahre lang trainiert hat, tischt sie ihm total unnötige lügen auf.
