The story is great fun. It would have come across even better if the narrator hadn't given Hester such an absolutely lifeless and dull voice. Yes, Hester has learnt to keep her emotions to herself when in her home with her unappreciative family and sees herself as stupid but she isn't. And she has a great sense of humour and of the ridiculous that shows itself in several situations as she's beginning to liven up in the company of Gareth, Hildebrand and Amanda. And this should have come across in the narration.

Meine Lieblingsautorin zieht hier alle Register dessen, was heute "RomKom" heißt.
Wunderbare Charaktere - abstrus, verschroben, liebenswert, bezaubernd, alles dabei - Dialoge und hitzige Diskussionen wie sie absurder, lächerlicher, witziger nicht sein können und eine Handlung mit immer neuen, unerwarteten Wendungen lassen die Zeit im Nu Vergehen.
Einfach nur bezaubernd!
