Der Sprecher ist sehr gut, man kann der Geschichte gut folgen, auch wenn Crichton mal wieder ohne besondere Ansage zwischen den Charakteren springt, schaft es der Sprecher nur mit seiner Stimme zu verdeutlichen, wer gerade spricht, ohne dass das ganze zu einem Hörspiel ausartet. Das Buch selbst ist sehr gut. Eine interessante Betrachtung der menschlichen Natur mit einer spannenden Geschichte verknüpft. Der Film wird dem Buch bei weitem nicht gerecht.

Don‘t know if thats a good thing. The writing was at some times more of a screenplay. The ideas were fantastic but the characters were hardly fleshed out.

A real Crichton!

I read this book relatively soon after it was published – around 1990. Now I listened to it again. It's still terrific in many ways. It's thrilling. It's oddly atmospheric. At it's time it was a paradigm of an entire genre. From today's perspective however it's also a bit stale. The characters seem stereotypical –though maybe they're rather prototypical–; in any case they're boring. The story itself is full of logical flaws and shortcuts; lots of loose ends; easy ways out. Not to say that still doesn't happen today. But today such a book wouldn't acquire as much acclaim.

What struck me most after so many years was how pervasive racism and sexism still were in the 1980s. While the story means to deal with and expose these phenomena the corresponding sections are also infused with that very same way of thinking. One needs to remind oneself how very different society still was at our parents' time.

Unfortunately I realized only after the buy, that Scott Brick is the narrator. In my opinion he is a mutilator of promising books. Bourne, Clancy, Crichton, it doesn't matter, I just can't handle that whiney, grave voice.For me it kills the story... sorry
