Just because I enjoy planning and researching doesn't mean I'm not the most dangerous badass mothercracker around.

The world sees me as boring, dependable David. And I like it that way. I know things and I'm organized. Plus, I've seen firsthand the harm a chaotic life can inflict, and I'd rather have my lists and be called dull. Which is what makes it all the more disconcerting when a sexy elf declares his adoration and begins to "woo" me. What am I supposed to do?

Hide, mostly. It's hard, though, because Caolan and I are supposed to be working together. And he's tough to resist: sweet, competent, and so incredibly beautiful. He sees something in me that no one else does. Would it really be such a bad thing if I gave in to temptation?

But my personal life can't be the priority right now. The bad guys are gearing up to strike, and if we don't stop them, the end of the world could be nigh. I need to focus on that, not on letting Caolan show me the benefits of spontaneity. Why don't world-ending disasters come with an instruction manual?

A lot of what I felt reading this book was already said in other reviews. I have to say that I read this after having already finished the Here Be Dragons series, or at least the books that were published up to this point and only returned now to read David's book. I somehow had something completely different in mind. Caelon feels so different in the other books so much more free-spirited. I love all of the characters so much and I love Caelon and David's relationship in the other books but I didn't always feel it here and that is sad. I got glimpses, like with the breakfast or the birthday gift or the hand holding but the lack of them doing anything romantic and bonding-wise made me feel disconnected to their relationship or growth of their feelings for one another. That also happened to me in the first book when Gideon suddenly and without preamble felt hurt, that Sam didn't pick up on him wanting to be something more 😳

I also felt a little cheated out of an epic battle somehow. I was expecting much more drama, gore, maybe one of the team being in critical condition, Percy being struck down or something.

Oh well. Still a fun read for sure and I still look forward to every new book in this universe.

I liked his quiet competence in the previous stories. It felt really good to see him find love and happiness! Again, despite theoretically having high stakes, the story lacks real tension, but it didn't feel so jarring this time. Maybe because David is just that competent.
Caelan is just precious. He tries so hard to win David over! From earnest declarations of love to getting him food to, ah, other things. Despite their differences, they work so good together it's ridiculous. Also, all the elves and dragons learning about modern society is just too cute!
I think this story might be at its end, though I would very much like to hear a but more about Percy's life... The ending was quite the surprise!

Can't give any more compliments to Joel Leslie. He's just awesome.

What a great finale

Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten. Bitte versuche es in ein paar Minuten noch einmal.
Auch wenn es wieder nur zwei Sterne geworden sind, muss ich sagen, dass ich David und Caolan echt total mag. Ihre Dynamik und ihre Charakterzüge haben mich einfach überzeugt und ich finde sie wirklich angenehm und spannend zusammen. (Vor allem, da Caolan ja auch noch so viel über unsere Welt lernt und diese kindliche Freude und Neugier besitzt.)

Leider hat mich das ganze Drumherum nicht abgeholt.

Da hätten wir zum einen den großen Hauptplot, der sich ja über alle vier Bände erstreckt und sich in eine total seltsame Verschwörung a la „Wir übernehmen die Welt, nachdem wir sie zuerst zerstört haben“ entwickelt hat.
Das hat irgendwie so gar nichts mehr mit den anfänglichen Zielen des Antagonisten zu tun und wurde einfach zu oberflächlich behandelt. Wäre man mehr in die Tiefe gegangen, was den Plot (und nicht nur den Sex und die Romantik – die auch immer sehr unrealistisch wirkt) angeht, wäre das total ok gewesen. Aber unsere Antagonisten bleiben komplett eindimensional und wir lernen viel zu wenig über sie.
Auch das der Plot (oder nennen wir es mal Krieg!) einfach so für Geburtstagsparties mit Dildo-Piñatas und allem anderen Mist unterbrochen wurde und die Antagonisten wahrscheinlich einfach gerade den Super-Bowl verfolgen, oder so, ist absolut seltsam.

Im vierten Band war ich leider auch nur noch genervt davon, dass JEDE PERSON in diesem Universum scheinbar hyper-sexuell ist und immer nur so Sexkram und Datingkram im Kopf hat.
Warum sind ALLE immer nur geil aufeinander und denken an große Penisse?! WARUM?!

Zwei Sterne für David und Caolan → die am Ende leider auch nur noch an Penisse denken und geil aufeinander sind. -.-
