Congratulations to Elizabeth George for picking up female genital mutilation (FGM) as a topic for an exciting police thriller set in London, as attention is drawn to the fact that much of FGM happens in Europe.

One star less for the author getting carried away in describing details not relevant to the story, which made me yawn from time to time.

Congratulations also to the reader whose voice and accent modulations almost turn the reading into a play, making characters immediately recognisable and familiar after a number of pages.

The story is well narrated an the topic is deeply disturbing. Linley and the rest of the crew remain without depth and are often stereotypical.

Wieder ein absolut spannender und fesselnder Krimi von Elisabeth George! Die verschiedenen Geschichtsstränge fliessen wie gewohnt gut ineinaner und fesseln einem bis zum Schluss. Total interssantes Thema der Geschichte und es stimmt mich sehr nachdenklich, dass solche mittelalterliche Praktiken leider immer noch an Frauen durchgeführt werden. Gut mal wieder auf solch ein Thema sensibilisiert zu werden.

Wie so oft greift Frau George ein gesellschaftliches Problem auf und baut eine glaubwürdige, spannende Geschichte darum herum. Ich nehme an, dass sie ausführlich recherchiert hat, und auch die beschriebenen Stadtteile Londons kennt. Und als jahrzehntelanger Lynley-Fan habe ich natürlich mit Interesse die Weiterentwicklung der bekannten Figuren verfolgt. Im Gegensatz zu den vielen einfallslosen Krimis, in denen inzwischen so oft Wahnsinnige und Serienmoerder ihr Unwesen treiben, kann man die Motive der Protagonisten hier zumindest nachvollziehen. Rundum ein Genuss.
