Get ready to be hooked by the thrilling and atmospheric murder mystery from the million-copy-selling crime writer: an aristocratic fatality leaves behind no body, no forensics, and enemies in the highest places...

When Caroline Thorpe succeeded in casting doubt on the verdict of the inquest into her brother’s death, she could not have anticipated what would follow.

Freddie was Earl Thorpe of Burnham, and as the Kings Lake detectives soon begin to realise, influential people have gone to considerable lengths to cover up a potential scandal surrounding the young man’s death.

Led by DCI Cara Freeman, their investigation will take them from Norfolk into the capital, and from idealistic young campaigners to people at the heart of government. The stakes have never been higher for the detectives from Kings Lake Central.

Kritikerstimmen

What sets Grainger’s books apart from the typical police procedural is the fully realized characters ... That and his elegant prose, with its pitch-perfect dialogue, which gets more assured and more playful in each book.

The books are comforting, yet the writing is subtle and the plots are gripping. (Emma Duncan)

Grainger expertly balances deep dives into his characters' personal lives with intricate police work, resulting in a suspenseful mystery with palpable emotional stakes. This is everything a procedural should be.

A marvelously complex procedural, full of suspense, danger, sticky moral choices, good writing, subtle humor, and some fine police work by an honest and competent team of detectives. It’s as satisfying a read as fans of intelligent detective fiction will find.

Absorbingly good, full of intrigue and humanity.

After devouring the entire Kings Lake universe in English, Some Sort of Justice proves once again why (Robert Partridge)Peter Grainger is an absolute genius of the British police procedural. Reopening the highly sensitive Thorpe case puts DCI Cara Freeman and her team against powerful, political forces, and the resulting story is incredibly smart, subtle, and gripping. What I love most about Grainger's work is the unhurried, intelligent pacing; he doesn't need cheap shock value, relying instead on sharp dialogue, meticulous police work, and deep character development. What elevates this book from great to an absolute masterpiece, however, is the brilliant narration by Gildart Jackson. His performance is, as always, flawless. Gildart has a unique talent for catching the exact, moody atmosphere of Norfolk, giving every character a distinct, believable voice, and delivering the( most apriciated) dry British wit with perfect comedic timing. The masterful use of pauses and his rich tone are the true soul of this audio series, making the experience deeply addictive.Peter Grainger’s sophisticated writing and Gildart Jackson’s exceptional voice are truly the perfect match. If you love intelligent crime fiction, you will absolutely inhale this one. A well-deserved 5 stars!
