Holly Stewart moved into Solace House thinking it would be a fresh start for her and her family. She knew a tragic murder had taken place there, but she didn’t know the full ghastly history of the house.

Now, her husband has lost his job, the children are bullied at school, and someone is prowling around the garden at night. Someone who wants them gone.

Detective Jackman wants to help. Instead he’s been pulled into a 20-year-old cold case. The gruesome murder of a young woman whose head was never found. A new witness comes forward. He claims to have crucial evidence on what really happened that night.

Days later, a group of litter-pickers uncover black sacks containing dismembered human limbs. Attending the scene, DS Marie Evans is shocked to see a strange symbol carved into the victim’s flesh: the same symbol found on the headless girl all those years ago.

The murders must be connected. But why has the killer struck again — after 20years?

As the threats to the Stewart family escalate, Jackman must choose between helping people in the present and solving the crimes of the past.

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you hooked until the explosive ending.

Great new challenge for the familiar police team - exciting until the end. It leaves me with one question: What exactly is the role of Jannet, John and the mysterious Steven?

Another gripping story

This is a really good book with a good gruesome story, great characters and a very tense ending. For a normal person, some parts of the story sound almost too crazy to be true, but I remember the Adam case so there are things which are beyond a normal person’s imagination. Anyway, this is a really good book by all accounts and it is extremely well read by Richard Armitage.

Tense and gruesome

perfect and gripping story, as always, I loved it! can‘t wait for the story to go on since it seems to me that it‘s not finished…

Another interesting case for Evans and Jackman. I never get tired of following them and their team unraveling their cases.
I found this one especially compelling, a subject a little out of the usual, I'd say.
Although the twist is a bit predictable, the plot still holds until the end.
I do feel pretty familiar with the characters of the police force, and this makes yet another great listen for fans of the series.
Very commendable indeed.

Quite compelling

It’s amazing how Joy Ellis manages to build up and keep up the tension during her novels while maintaining a sense of humor and personal touch. And how Richard Armitage performs is simply amazing. love this series!
