Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

The audiobook of Small Gods is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor and director Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings; Planet of the Apes). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'You should do things because they're right. Not because gods say so. They might say something different another time.'

Religion is a competitive business in the Discworld. Everyone has their own opinion and their own gods, of every shape and size - all fighting for faith, followers, and a place at the top.

So when the great god Om accidentally manifests himself as a lowly tortoise, stripped of all divine power, it's clear he's become less important than he realised.

In such instances, you need an acolyte, and fast. Enter Brutha, the Chosen One - or at least the only One available. He wants peace, justice and love - but that's hard to achieve in a world where religion means power, and corruption reigns supreme...

'An intriguing satire on institutionalized religion corrupted by power . . .' Independent

'Deftly weaves themes of forgiveness, belief and spiritual regeneration'

You can listen to the Discworld novels in any order, but Small Gods is a standalone.

I really enjoyed it. Other cammenters didn't like the narrator or had other complaints but I don't see why. It was well done and I really recomment it. The book in itself was great too but I expected that.

I liked it

Awesome Story and characters, brought to life by an amazing narrator. Philosophical, funny yet deep - a true Pratchett.

A true Pratchett

Small Gods is pretty much may favorite standalone discworld book. Bruthas and the Great God Om's (now slightly less great in tortoise form) story was always one of my favorite tales. Andy Serkis just makes this book even better, The dry wit and subtle nuances of his voices for the characters just make Terry Pratchetts scathing satire of organized religion sublime.
Unlike other reviewers, I never had problems keeping the characters voices apart and I think, they fit perfectly.

My favorite Discworld Standalone book made better

I really like the audiobook version of the book, although I missed out on some word games because of my unfamiliarity with the accent/wording. I really liked the book, it makes you think and laugh and smile and think more:)

Amazing voices and, well, amazing Pratchett!

Knowing that Andy Serkis is a world famous actor with experience in voiceovers, I was expecting better narration than was delivered here. Many of the voices sound very alike (low, growling, bubbling) and sometimes are chosen in a way that seems inappropriate for the given character. The protagonist is a seemingly naive 17 year old, but he is also voiced in that low baritone Serkis seems fond of here. I didn’t really enjoy that choice.

Oh man, I really wanted to say something positive about the new edition.
Andy Serkis may be a good actor. But he isn't a good narrator of a Terry Pratchett novel. He is butchering punctuation and killing the sarkasm and tone of the characters. It's bad. Really bad.
My old recording of this book is flawed and so I wanted to buy a new one. It is impossible to listen to Andy Serkis doing "serial killer" voices for almost all characters. And again...how can you kill the point of a joke with this bad of a timing? It is, like he hasn't read any of the books before. Including this one.
Please make up your own judgement. I will give it another chance at some point. But for now, I just can't listen to this anymore.
Sad. I hope, he isn't allowed to do any more of those.

Butchering the classic humor
