Brutha is the Chosen One. His god has spoken to him, admittedly while currently in the shape of a tortoise.
Brutha is a simple lad. He can't read. He can't write. He's pretty good at growing melons. And his wants are few.
He wants to overthrow a huge and corrupt church. He wants to prevent a horribly holy war. He wants to stop the persecution of a philosopher who has dared to suggest that, contrary to the Church's dogma, the Discworld really does go through space on the back of an enormous turtle. (Which is true, but when has that ever mattered?) He wants peace and justice and brotherly love. He wants the Inquisition to stop torturing him now, please.
But most of all, what he really wants more than anything else, is for his god to choose someone else....
Please note: This is a vintage recording. The audio quality may not be up to modern day standards.
Kritikerstimmen
"Pratchett is the funniest parodist working in the field today, period." (The New York Review of Science Fiction)
"Terry Pratchett is simply the best humorous writer of the 20th century. Wodehouse, Waugh, Sharpe, etc. all have their merits, sometimes considerable, but Pratchett really is a cut above the rest." (Oxford Times)

Geschichte
The Colour of Magic, the first novel in Terry Pratchett's wildly imaginative Discworld series, takes the listener on a remarkable journey. The magical planet of Discworld is supported by four massive elephants who stand on the back of the Great A'Tuin, a giant turtle swimming slowly through the mysterious interstellar gulf. An eccentric expedition sets out to explore the planet, encountering dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and, of course, 'The Edge' of the planet.

Geschichte
In the 'fantasy' universe of the phenomenally bestselling Discworld series, everything runs on magic and common sense. The world is flat and million-to-one chances happen nine times out of ten. Our world seems different - it runs on rules, often rather strange ones. Science is our way of finding out what those rules are. The appeal of Discworld is that it mostly makes sense, in a way that particle physics does not.

Geschichte
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Geschichte
Finding himself alone on a desert island when everything and everyone he knows and loved has been washed away in a huge storm, Mau is the last surviving member of his nation. He's also completely alone - or so he thinks until he finds the ghost girl. She has no toes, wears strange lacy trousers like the grandfather bird and gives him a stick which can make fire. Daphne, sole survivor of the wreck of the Sweet Judy, almost immediately regrets trying to shoot the native boy.

Geschichte
The Western Front, 1916. Private Percy Blakeney wakes up. He is lying on fresh spring grass. He can hear birdsong, and the wind in the leaves in the trees. Where have the mud, blood, and blasted landscape of No Man's Land gone? Madison, Wisconsin, 2015. Cop Monica Jansson is exploring the burned-out home of a reclusive - some said mad, others dangerous - scientist when she finds a curious gadget: a box containing some wiring, a three-way switch and a potato. It is the prototype of a life-changing invention....

great story, great narrator , bad sound quality
Terry Pratchett at his best; a lot of scenes are just hilarious, also the narrator does a really good job . Unfortunately bad sound quality seems to be an issue with most of the discworld series on audible ; it´s advisable not to listen with headphones than it´s easier to block out the random noise . It´s a great book. Sound quality really should be better though ! Therefore only 3 stars.

One Terry Pratchetts Best Work and..
... perhaps one of the most important books about religion that was ever written.
Even if/or especially because you are not a fan of the Discworld you should read this book.

Great as always
This just might be Terry Pratchets best book, it has everything. I haven't read a book from him for quite some time now, and so i was amazed how great he is. I must confess i had forgotten a little bit. If i could only recomend a few books to read or in this case hear, this would be at the very top. I love it. The one Star i took away is because people who do not speak very good english might not understanding. Buy it anyway, understanding half of this is still better than most other books. Have fun.

Terry Pratchett at his best
