Henry Chester is, to all appearances, a well off painter who marries his young model Effie, whom he tries to protect from all evil. Or so he thinks, unable to acknowledge the evil in himself and the fact not all the church comdemns is truly evil. I love Joanne Harris's books. They look right into the abyss or perceived abyss that is the human mind. Geez that's pushing it a bit... But add to that the rare talent of Steven Pacey, who manages to give each character their own life, The Pale Sister is such a pleasure to listen to for drama queens like me. :)

Haunting tale of obsession and fake decency
