Silver in the Wood

Even the wild man of Greenhollow can't ignore a summons from his mother when that mother is the indomitable Adela Silver, practical folklorist. Henry Silver does not relish what he'll find in the grimy seaside town of Rothport, where once the ancient wood extended before it was drowned beneath the sea - a missing girl, a monster on the loose, or, worst of all, Tobias Finch, who loves him.

Gleich zu Beginn hätte ich aufgrund der "Beziehung" der Charaktere zueinander, fast nicht weitergehört. Aber ich bin froh das ich es habe, denn die Geschichten waren sehr spannend und nicht vorhersehbar. Sehr schöner Folklorencharme.

I love examinations of the price of immortality and what makes us human and especially Drowned Country delivered on that front. Emily Tesh is obviously familiar with English folklore and its intricacies. Recommended for those who love to explore worlds beyond our own through novels.

One of the best books I read/listened to this year or ever. It is deep with folklore, sweet with interactions and you never know what will happen next.

Okay, ich habe diese Duologie geliebt! Ich hätte gern so viel mehr über Silver und Tobias gelesen / gelernt. Hätte gern so viel mehr über diese Welt und die Magie in ihr erfahren.
Hätte gern so viel mehr über Silvers und Tobias Beziehung gelernt. Über Adela Silver und „the missing girl“.
Shit man ... ich könnte nochmal 600 Seiten oder so vertragen xD

What a lovely story. The protagonist, Tobias Finch, is a slow and thoughtful man and his character sets the tone of the book. From the slow unraveling of the plot and the tender growing of the love story, to the choice of words, the descriptions of nature and magic, even the voice of the narrator. It fits really nicely together and it makes sense given that tobias is 400 years old.
The magical creatures and also the type of magic that the "green man" performs are really unique and fresh. Tobias (and silver to a lesser extent as well) is a really unusual protagonist and even though I cannot really identify, I still loved to read his/their story. The romantic tension between the two main characters and their 'will they, won't they' is a main thread of the plot, so if gay romance is not your thing you probably won't enjoy it much. That being said, it's not vulgar but really very sweet without being overly cheesy.
