Now in development as a feature film with Amazon MGM Studios, with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad attached to write the script!
Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be.
The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.
I've spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.
I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.
But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father's throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.
Now I'm crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him—bound to a future I didn't choose and a husband I barely know.
Everyone wants me to be something I'm not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.
But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there's power in being underestimated?
And what if—for the first time—I reached for it?
Contains mature themes.

The only aspect that I didn’t really know how I felt about it in the beginning but got used to quickly, was that the female narrator did the male parts as well in a deeper voice (well, she did everyones part in different voices). I liked her voice in general, so I couldn’t really dislike it and she still delivered it well…
I guess, that there will probably be a male narrator in the next book. In the end, there was one chapter, written from the MMCs perspective and narrated by a man. Maybe there is more to come.
Looking forward to book 2 and excited to see, how the story continues 🥰
Probably fav audiobook this year

Good book

I‘ve come to realize, that the stories always follows the same receipe:
- ‚weak’ heroine that SURPRISINGLY develops THE strongest superpowers or fighting skills within a few months
- dark and moody love interest
- some spice round about 2/3rds into the book
- immature inner dialogues
- often presented by a moaning and sighing narrator
…not this one! Of course some of the twists were forseeable, and some ingrediences of the receipe might be found, but it was the first Audio Book in ages that really got me hooked! Finally a well rounded heroine and some novelty. The writing is awesome! Can‘t wait for the next book!
Finally something original and exciting again :)

Unterhaltsam

The audiobook performance by Samantha Brentmoor (who narrates all but the last chapter) was genuinely great. She handles both female and male characters effortlessly, and her range really shows her talent as a voice actor.
I’m very much looking forward to part two of the story. And while I’m hoping for more chapters from the MMC’s POV (read by Jason Clarke - hot!), I’m just as excited to hear more of Samantha’s performance.
Great Book, Great Narration
